Hugo Thomas
Writer & Director, founder of Screenplay Editor

Who made this?

I'm Hugo Thomas, a French writer and director based in Rome. My first feature film, Willy 1er, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the ACID selection (2016). Juniors, my second, screened at festivals worldwide. Both are on Netflix. Before that, my shorts Perrault, La Fontaine, Mon Cul! and Ich Bin Eine Tata both won awards at Clermont-Ferrand, the largest short film festival in the world (did I mention it's the largest?).

I've spent years formatting scripts, fighting with software that wasn't built for how writers actually work. Final Draft feels like the 90s to me. I love a vintage look, but emailing license codes around every time you want to collaborate? That's where I draw the line.

The people behind it

Screenplay Editor isn't a side project. I built it with screenwriters who tested every feature and told me the truth, and developers who helped me make it fast and reliable. It's live, it gets better almost every week, and screenwriters around the world write with it. When something breaks, a real person answers. Usually me.

Schools, universities and writing teams

Teachers run Screenplay Editor in the classroom and writing teams use it together. If you're bringing it to a school, a film program, or a team, I set up access and invoicing for you directly. See the schools and teams page, or just write to me.
