Open your Final Draft script in Google Docs.

Drop in a .fdx file and download a document that opens in Google Docs already formatted, with the margins a screenplay is supposed to have. It runs inside this page, on your own computer, and your script is never uploaded.

Final Draft (.fdx). Nothing is uploaded.

Why the formatting holds

The conversion guesses nothing

A .fdx file records the type of every paragraph, so your scene headings, characters, parentheticals, dialogue and transitions land exactly where Final Draft put them. Your title page comes along. Cast lists and act markers are left out, because they belong to the Final Draft document rather than to the screenplay, and two speeches written side by side come out one under the other, since Google Docs cannot show two columns of dialogue.

The margins are the industry ones, to the point

The document carries the exact indents of the standard, the same ones Screenplay Editor applies while you write. That is why the add-on and the Chrome extension recognise every paragraph the moment you open the file, instead of asking you to reformat a hundred pages by hand.

Questions about Final Draft and Google Docs

I write my own films in Google Docs, so I built the tools I kept wishing existed.

Ask me something
Why do I download a file instead of getting a Google Doc directly?
Making a document in your Drive would mean asking you to sign in and hand over access to your files, for a tool you are only trying out. Dragging the file into Drive takes about ten seconds and asks nothing of you.
Will Google Docs keep the formatting?
Yes. Drive converts the file and keeps the margins, the indents and the Courier. Open it with Google Docs and the script is already laid out.
Can I go back to Final Draft afterwards?
Yes. Convert your script here to .fdx from the main converter, or export it from the add-on once you have finished writing.
Is my screenplay uploaded anywhere?
No. The .fdx is read inside this page by your own browser. It is never sent anywhere and nothing is stored.
