Turn your Fountain file into a Final Draft file.
Drop in a .fountain file and download a .fdx that Final Draft opens with every scene heading, character cue and line of dialogue already typed. It runs inside this page, on your own computer, and your script is never uploaded.

You can also pick a file from your computer.
Fountain (.fountain, .spmd) and plain text. Nothing is uploaded.
What the file contains
Three steps to get it into Google Docs
Open drive.google.com and drag the file you just downloaded into it.
Double click the file, then choose Open with Google Docs. Drive converts it and keeps the formatting.
Start writing. If you have the add-on or the Chrome extension, it recognises the script immediately, because the document already carries the margins it expects.
Your file is ready
What Fountain says, and what a .fdx records
Fountain hides the type in the punctuation
A Fountain file does not say what a line is. It lets you work it out from the punctuation and from the blank lines around it, which is why the format is pleasant to write and awkward to convert. The converter reads all of it: the forced elements you wrote with a leading dot, an at sign or a greater-than sign, the title page at the top, and the notes and boneyard you left in the margins.
A .fdx says it out loud
Final Draft records the type of every paragraph inside the file, so once the reading is done the writing is exact. Your sections and synopses stay out of the .fdx, because they are your working notes and not part of the screenplay. Bold and italic go too, since a screenplay carries neither.
